Katherine Stinson Otero, born in 1891, faced down the odds challenging her as a woman, and became a celebrated and successful pilot during aviation's early age. Among her many accomplishments include: first precision flyer, first to conduct pre-flight inspections, first to fly solo at night, first to conduct a loop-de-loop. Miss Stinson Otero also invented night skywriting. The fourth woman ever to receive a pilot's license in the U.S., she was married to Miguel Otero, son of a Territorial Governor, and died in 1977, witnessing many advances in aviation and women's rights during the course of her lifetime.
