Its name traces back to the Algonquin language, but the "pow wow" is a time for all Native People to celebrate the cycles of life, with traditional food, costumes, and culture on the bill of fare. Indian people travel on established pow wow circuits, some of which include competitive singing and dancing contests. The annual Gathering of Nations Pow Wow in Albuquerque is regarded as North America's Biggest Pow Wow, with more than 3,000 dancers from 500 tribes in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, competing.
