Tram at sunset over the Sandia Mountains. With a total diagonal length of 2.7 miles, Sandia Peak Tram is the longest aerial tram of its type in the world. Located on the eastern edge of Albuquerque, the tramway ascended its first passengers up Sandia Peak on May 7, 1966. It remains one of the top tourist activities in the state, affording glorious sunset views, such as this one, upon many of its 10,500 average trips per year.
