The ten players of the1915-1916 champion Western High School  basketball team pose in uniform, joined by Coach Ross B. Wiley. Then known as the "New Mexico Normal School," it became part of New Mexico State Teacher's College in the 1920s and is today the separate high school, Silver high School. Established to train high school graduates for the teaching profession, Normal Schools were a step to one of the few accepted "career" paths for young women during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
