Tying a ribbon on a calf's tail was one of the feature attractions at the 1940 Pie Town Fair Rodeo. Clyde Norman, who filed a mining claim in 1922 for the land in Catron County, pushed through the official name for the town as "Pie Town" when the Postmaster General refused to certify its first name: "Norman's Place." The inspiration for the name "Pie Town" came from the honest and hearty culinary fare of the homesteaders. Pie Town is today world famous for its delicious pies, available in many varieties.
